Culture
Cultural immersion is big for me!
I always feel like there’s always room to learn.
My favorite saying is “go and see”; there are too many naysayers and stereotypes that it becomes important for me to not only go and see for myself, but to return with that education in order to create awareness. Honestly, I don’t have a least favorite example of cultural experiences, I love it all! Because they’re all unique!
Being a black woman, sometimes is challenging.
We’re viewed as strong and resilient, but sometimes, we just want to be seen and acknowledged as individuals. Traveling has given me a sense of myself and my place in the world. After centuries of constraint, black women’s journeys have the power to dispel myths and give back.
For far too long, black women have been told how to live. We have been forced to exist in spaces that were not built with our comfort in mind, and as such…
Black women traveling the world freely and for pleasure is certainly boundary shattering! We travel because we are lucky enough to venture to places our parents never could, to live out the dreams & intentions of our ancestors and be part of a generation for whom free movement is finally feasible. Like who would’ve thought I would be living my parents wildest dreams!
We travel for ourselves, first and foremost, but attached to our journeys is the potential to rebuke stereotypes, trace roots and give back. We travel because we can. And that in and of itself is enough reason to go and see!
